Build a world-class scientific, clinical, and entrepreneurial team to create and execute solutions for brain cancer treatments.
Strategic Hires
Our team is composed of world class experts with vast experience in collaborative research and translating technologies to the clinic. To further expand our community of scholars and technology expertise, we have hired in June and July 2023, Dr. Guizhi (Julian) Zhu and Dr. Toshiro Hara as Ara G. Paul Associate Professor at the College of Pharmacy and as Assistant Professor at the Neurosurgery Department.
Community Building
We have an expansive suite of programmatic activities to foster collaborations and advance the frontiers of knowledge. We also plan to invite thought-leaders in the field and strengthen our engagement with external partners from funding agencies, brain cancer foundations, industry and venture capital communities. Our program includes:
- Annual Brain Tumor Challenge Summit
- Biennial International Symposium
- Research Students/Trainees events
- Seminar series
- Monthly investigators meetings
This year the BIBC team attended the MICHIGAN BT5K run/walk on May 18th, 2024 in Kensington Metropark Milford, MI to support the American Brain Tumor Association.
Community Outreach
We plan to actively participate in community outreach activities to raise public awareness about the disease. We will build upon ongoing efforts within BI and the Rogel Cancer Center to bring attention to Brain Cancer at events such as One Day Closer. The BIBC groups have actively participated with BI in 2022 and 2023 @ the Xplore Engineering, an hands-on event for kids in elementary school. In 2023 BIBC presented the activity “Delivering drugs to the Brain”. BIBC together with BI participated at the research Palooza event in 2023 to showcase BIBC Cores instrumentations and capabilities. Other events BIBC is annually involved are the BI Research day for trainees and students and the Midwest of Core Association Conference.
BIBC will host a Summer Stem workshop from July 8 – 10 at Parkridge Community Center for students in 1st – 7th grade, as well as a BIBC Core lab tour and activities showcase for high school students.
Entrepreneurship Education
We work closely with innovation partners on campus, including The Biointerfaces Institute (BI) Innovation Fellows and The Office of Technology Transfer, to offer training opportunities for our faculty and learners and ensure translation of our technologies. For 2024 we are planning a lunch and learn for the BIBC faculties and the BI Innovation Fellows.
