Featured in Health Lab: Researchers Use Nanoparticles to Target Glioblastoma in Mice

Dr. Maria G. Castro’s and Dr. Anna Schwendeman’s labs at the University of Michigan have teamed up to develop a novel nanoparticle-based therapy to target glioblastoma, an aggressive and deadly brain cancer. Their innovative approach uses engineered nanodiscs to disrupt cholesterol metabolism in tumor cells, slowing tumor growth and improving survival in mouse models. In combination with radiation therapy, the treatment significantly enhanced survival rates in these models.

This exciting collaboration showcases the power of combining expertise in cancer biology and drug delivery to advance new treatment strategies.
