Members of six BI groups were awarded NSF Graduate Fellowships.

The inaugural 2019 BI Innovator Awards are awarded to Tim Bruns, Yichun Wang and Rose Cersonsky.

An article from the Lahann lab was recently published in Science. The article is entitled “Templated nanofiber synthesis via chemical vapor polymerization into liquid crystalline films” and reports on nanofiber arrays that can lead to various functional coatings.

Sunitha Nagrath is the recipient of the 2018 Analytical Chemistry Young Innovator Award. The award honors the contributions of an individual who has demonstrated exceptional technical advancement and innovation in the field of microfluidics or nanofluidics in his or her early career.

The article entitled “Profiling Heterogeneous Circulating Tumor Cells (CTC) Populations in Pancreatic Cancer Using a Serial Microfluidic CTC Carpet Chip” appears in Advanced Biosystems.

This award recognizes scientists and pharmaceutical professionals who are early in their careers, who have made a significant impact in the pharmaceutical sciences that promotes public health.

Cindy Chestek (Biomedical Engineering), James Moon (Pharmaceutical Sciences) and A. Schwendeman (Pharmaceutical Sciences) were promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. Congratulations!

Peter Tessier was elected a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).  AIMBE comprises of leaders in medical and biological engineering, consisting of academic, industrial, professional society councils and elected fellows.

Carlos Aguilar is one of the recipients of the 2018 3M Non-Tenured Faculty Awards.  Awarded by 3M Corporation, this award recognizes junior faculty who demonstrate outstanding research, experience, teaching and academic leadership.

The article “Adjuvant-Loaded Spiky Gold Nanoparticles for Activation of Innate Immune Cells” appears in Cellular and Molecular Engineering.

In work started during his time at Rice University, Deepak Nagrath continues to research cancer cell metabolism and how cancer cells interact. Learning how the cells communicate could lead to new targets for more effective treatments than those currently is use.
